Rick Perry: ”I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a Christian, but you don’t need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school. “
As hurtful as that statement is, I can see a point in it. Why is it that we can publicly accept “non-standard lifestyles” among those who serve our country, but cannot publicly practice religious tolerance? It’s all ‘happy holidays,’ and debates over ‘under God’ in the pledge.
Really?
We can accept one kind of variance, but not another? It’s okay to be homosexual, but not okay to pray to one’s God/god/goddess of choice in a public place?
Grow up, people.
